Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in our country and the world; these are directly related to atherosclerosis and its well-established risk factors. The identification of these risk factors has led to the development of tools to calculate the probability of diseases, which is known as cardiovascular risk. This article reviews briefly the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases, its relationship with atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk scales and a new tool known as vascular age.
