Abstract

SALA, Laura. External Ideas in the Latin American Military Doctrines of the Cold War. Secuencia [online]. 2021, n.111, e1946.  Epub Nov 16, 2021. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i111.1946.

This paper makes a critical reading about the studies on military doctrines during the cold war in Latin America. It goes through significant works on the National Security Doctrine and the Revolutionary War Doctrine, in Latin America. It proposes that this literature is supported by a series of assumptions -implicit- about the role of external links and ideas in their elaboration. The paper classifies it into three major approaches: 1) that which emphasizes North American broadcasting; 2) the one that focuses on the complexity of the export-import process and 3) the one that postulates the idea of transnational circulation. Finally, it proposes another approach based on the concepts of circulation-reception.

Keywords : National Security Doctrine; Revolutionary War Doctrine; circulation of ideas; military doctrines; cold war.
