ORTIZ GOMEZ, Octavio. Rock and Roll, Culture and Collective Memory in a Global World. Secuencia [online]. 2008, n.72, pp.137-170. ISSN 2395-8464. https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i72.1056.
On the basis of the description of scenographic features and the evocation of Paul McCartney's first appearance in México, the author analyzes the indissoluble link between rock music and mass culture, so representative of the cultural development of the second half of the 20th century. The author focuses on the development of rock as a performance and youth culture. It mentions the cultural revolution of the 1960s as a determining phenomenon of our era, like the work of The Beatles, as a clear example of the historie link between pop music, the media and mass entertainment. On the basis of specific events, he highlights the ritual and festive aspeets of the large gatherings in which rock plays a key role and suggests that this popular artistic expression embodies the meaning of postmodernism. The author suggests that it would be impossible to understand the direction taken by last century's cultural industries without considering the influence of this music.
