Abstract

DASQUES, Françoise. En conSecuencia con la imagen. El comercio a través de la imagen en el siglo XIX. El ejemplo de los catálogos de hierro colado artístico. Secuencia [online]. 2005, n.62, pp.220-240. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i62.922.

The article seeks to deal with the phenomenon of images in the new global context of trade that characterized the 19th century. By way of an example, the article examines the catalogs produced for the mass distribution of these artistic objects (industrial art) which are cast iron sculptures and ornaments. Richly adorned with the engravings of works and beautifully edited, smelters' albums have undoubtedly contributed to the international fashion for these bourgeois objects of decoration shipped all over the world by countries with iron and steel industries. The principle of illustrated catalogs would be taken up by Mexican smelters who adapted it to their economic and editorial conditions.

Keywords : Illustrated catalogs; artistic cast iron; smelters' albums; bourgeois art; 19th century.
