Abstract
RIOJAS, Carlos. El comercio exterior, la protoindustria y América Latina en el siglo XIX. Trace (Méx. DF) [online]. 2013, n.64, pp.7-24. ISSN 2007-2392.
This article presents, under a global perspective, which were the main influences in the socioeconomic local system in Latin America derived from the productive performance of European proto-industrial regions. It explains how these impacts marked the Latin American industrialization processes during the 19th century. The text is divided into four parts: 1) it exposes some theoretical and methodological references in order to clarify the origin and nature of the proto-industrial region's impacts at a local-regional level; 2) enlarges the empirical evidences that make clear the links between foreign trade and local production systems, based fundamentally on the west-central Mexico case; 3) describes the logic of the reorganization of economic relations which contributed to develop this specific dynamic; and 4) provides a historical interpretation about the links between foreign trade and economic growth, following the tradition of the second generation of proto-industrial studies.
