This paper describes and analyzes the origin and development of Morelia’s deaf community, emphasizing the features that typified it and some of the most outstanding events from its past. Also, some similarities and contrasts are drawn between this community and groups at the National School for Deaf-Mute People in Mexico City through a brief review of the latter’s history
