Abstract

SANCHEZ GONZALEZ DE HERRERO, María de las Nieves. Explanations and Lexical Development in Medieval Scientific Testimonies in Castilian. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.135, pp.13-38. ISSN 2448-7554.

This study presents an excursion through a series of medieval medical and encyclopedic texts in Castilian in an effort to perceive how their authors and, later, translators into the Romance languages, worked to achieve the objective of making their texts accessible to contemporary readers. Since one of the main difficulties arose from the original authors' use of specific terminologies, translators often turned to metalexical integrations, elucidations and synonyms to facilitate understanding.

Keywords : history of scientific language; medieval translation.
