Abstract

ALBEROLA ROMA, Armando. Plagues of Locusts and Climate in 18th-century Spain. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.129, pp.21-50. ISSN 2448-7554.

During the Modern Age, the Spanish countryside suffered several attacks by plagues of locusts. This article examines those that ocurred in the 18th century, paying particular attention to the advances in the understanding of the morphology and behavior of this insect during that period. Also, it analyzes the relationship between climate and the incidence of such plagues, the consequences of their attacks, and the different means employed to combat them.
