Abstract

NARANJO TAMAYO, Omayda. Pensativa by Jesús Goytortúa Santos: The Image and Representation of Mexican Women in Novels on the Cristero Rebellion. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2010, vol.31, n.123, pp.59-84. ISSN 2448-7554.

Against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution, this essay explores the representation of women in the late 1920s based on an analysis of the novel Pensativa by Jesús Goytortúa Santos. In addition, the study highlights the presence of women in history through an examination of one particular literary genre during a period in which the dominant conception held that their role in the family and society should be circumscribed exclusively to the confines of the household. This image of women is studied through their participation in the first Cristero Rebellion (1926-1929).

Keywords : women; image; literature; history; Cristero Rebellion.
