Abstract

FOLGUERAS MONTIEL, Maryluz; RODRIGUEZ MORALES, Sergio; HERRERA ISLA, Lidcay  and  SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ, Robersy. Influence of Cuttings on Root Rot Incidence in Cassava (Manihot esculenta). Rev. mex. fitopatol [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.1, pp.60-64. ISSN 2007-8080.

The influence of cuttings from primary or secondary stems of moderately branched clones on incidence and severity of root rot disease was tested at the Research Institute of Tropical Root and Tuber Crops, bananas, plantains and vegetables (INIVIT) during January/2008 to January/2010. Cassava clones 'INIVIT Y-93-4' and 'CEMSA 74-6329' were used. In both cases, commercial root weight per plant and distribution and infection percentage of root rots were assessed at harvesting time. As result, it was statistically shown that secondary branches from moderately branched clones can be used to reduce infection percentage of root rot. Seed selection resulted in a marked reduction in this variable.

Keywords : planting material; agricultural practices; root rot.
