Abstract

PEREZ MARTINEZ, Ricardo. The Oblique Dialect of Don Luis de Góngora and Argote According to Monsignor Juan Caramuel y Lobkowitz. Acta poét [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.2, pp.123-139. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2017.2.804.

In this paper, we analyze Caramuel’s appraisals on the poetical style of Luis de Góngora y Argote. We also explain the reasons for which this poetical style was called by Caramuel a “different dialect”: Latinisms, hyperbatons, imitation of Latin syntax, erudition, and the subtlety of concepts. In addition, we relate Góngora’s poetry to the notion of obliquity, a notion used frequently by Caramuel in order to establish distinctions regarding form and presentation in diverse disciplines.

Keywords : Caramuel; Góngora; concept; oblique; poetics.
