CASTRO MEAGHER, Genoveva. El reconocimiento de Śākuntalā. Acta poét [online]. 2008, vol.29, n.1, pp.301-317. ISSN 2448-735X.
Sanskrit theater has occupied an important place outside of India since it was translated into different European languages towards the end of the XVIII century. The recognition of Śākuntalā by Kālidāsa is one of the most well known and also the first Indian play to be translated into a non Indian language. The discovery of Kālidāsa by the Europeans helped construct the imagery of the Orient and forged a profound interest in this area. This article analyzes the work of this Indian dramatist and the distinct reactions it provoked in Europe.
Keywords : India; teatro; sánscrito; Śākuntalā; Kālidāsa.
