Abstract

PEREZ, Laura. Personal Eschatology in Philo of Alexandria: Immortality and Fate of the Soul. Nova tellus [online]. 2018, vol.36, n.2, pp.9-38. ISSN 0185-3058.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2018.36.2.794.

The purpose of the article is to analyze in the texts of Philo of Alexandria his conceptions about personal eschatology, i. e., the individual soul’s destiny after death. In the first section, we will inquire into the meaning of the immortality that Philo attributes to virtuous souls. In the second part, we will examine the sense of the concept of death of the soul and we will try to elucidate what is the punishment for unjust and impious souls.
