SALLES, Ricardo. The Stoic Theory of Sophisms. Nova tellus [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.2, pp.145-179. ISSN 0185-3058.
This paper offers an analysis of the main ancient sources for the theory employed by the Stoics to shed light upon the nature of sophisms. To do so, a close analysis is given of the distinction the Stoics draw between sophisms that depend on "vocal sound" and those that depend on "states of affairs" (τά παρά τήν φωνήν καί τά πράγματα σοφίσματα). The purpose is to trace the possible origin of the theory and certain differences there seems to be between how the Stoics handle certain sophisms such as "the Liar" and "the Sorites", and the way in which some modern logicians do it.
