Abstract
REYES CORIA, Bulmaro. Ciceronis peccatum. Nova tellus [online]. 2005, vol.23, n.2, pp.15-32. ISSN 0185-3058. https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2005.23.2.162.
Cicero was punished with exile, because his eloquence brought the Catilinarian conspirators to their deaths. In parts of his letters, it is possible to see whether he considers himself innocent or guilty. The very words that reveal that recognition exculpate him. Thus, where Catiline’s trial is concerned, it is not so important to ascertain whether or not Cicero remains a model of eloquence: it is more important to establish whether what is said on a particular occasion can seem correct at that moment but incorrect at another.
