Abstract

From 2009 onward, Mexican Normal Schools are participating in the Program for the Professional Development of Teachers (Prodep), a national policy originally designed for public universities. From its beginnings in 1996, Prodep has sought to improve academe by preparing and hiring full-time academics who not only teach, but are also involved in research, tutoring and decision-making. This articles analyzes what the effects of Prodep have been in institutions that prepare teachers for primary and secondary education.
