Abstract

GALAZ FONTES, Jesús Francisco  and  VILORIA HERNANDEZ, Esperanza. The academic career in Mexico at the beginning of the 21st Century: An exploration based on the 2007-2008 RPAM survey. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2014, vol.43, n.171, pp.37-65. ISSN 0185-2760.

Based on the national survey results The Reconfiguration of the Academic Profession in Mexico, 2007-2008, and considering the academic career as a temporary process: to arrive, pass through and leave, a concept that is explored under five aspects: Admission profile, academicians professional development, a temporary path towards better categories, developed work nature, academicians identity and commitment and, finally, retirement. The analysis was based on the identification of three generations of academicians: the young ones (0-6 years), the mature ones (7-20 years) and the deans (21 + years).
