CARDOSO AMARAL, Nelson. Expansión-evaluación-financiamiento, tensiones y desafíos en la educación superior brasileña. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2009, vol.38, n.151, pp.19-38. ISSN 0185-2760.

This analysis shows the bind between expansion, evaluation, financing and Higher Education in Brazil, from the conquest to the present day. In the colonial period there was not yet established a system about higher education. In 1808, when the Royal Family arrived, institutions offering top education were created. From 1889 until 1930, known as the First Republic, Brazilian universities were created. During Populism (1945-1984) an expansion of the public sector took place and their financial resources were used for this purpose. Throughout 1964 until 1984, with the military regime, higher education were increased. Finally, in the New Republic all through 1985-2008, there were improved actions that linked evaluation and financing which motivated changes in all institutions.
