Abstract

OBAKENG MABOKELA, Reitumetse. Fusiones en la educación superior en Sudáfrica: ¿una respuesta a la globalización?. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2008, vol.37, n.145, pp.81-88. ISSN 0185-2760.

The reasoning presented by the author connects the globalization impact with those that come with the ending of the shameful Apartheid (1994). Even though, the fusion theme is of significance, it acquires unusual characteristics in South Africa, just because, in many cases, a very strong effort is made to fuse and improve institutions that in years gone by were immersed on an ethnic group segregation. To strain 36 institutions and convert them in 21 is a very complex process; the author relates this change within the academic profession and the fairness and equity values.

Keywords : Institutional fusion; the state role; institutions strategies; organizational changes; academic profession.
