Abstract

LANGER, Eduardo  and  MINCHALA, Carlos. Las Socio-educational Inequalities in Urban Space. A Georeferenced Study of Enrollment Rates at the Secondary Level (San Martín District, Buenos Aires). Perfiles educativos [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.175, pp.23-41.  Epub May 23, 2022. ISSN 0185-2698.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2022.175.60009.

The present article aims to describe the configuration of socio-educational inequalities related to the urban location of secondary schools in the San Martín district (Buenos Aires). In order to do this, we georeferenced the socio-urban space and the demographic data in relation to the past decade schooling rates (2008 to 2019). Some of the results express variations in these rates, but not in a unique, homogeneous or segmented way, as is commonly thought. School success rates are not concentrated in downtown areas with lower levels of need, nor are the highest school failure rates found in peripheral areas with higher levels of poverty. There is dispersion and fluctuation of educational inequalities throughout the city, as can be seen in the distribution of schooling rates on the city map.

Keywords : Inequality; Urban space; Schooling; Precarity; Georeference.
