Abstract

LEON OLIVARES, Felipe. Genesis of student mobility in the Department of Chemical Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de México 1920-1935. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.162, pp.8-21. ISSN 0185-2698.

The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze student mobility in the Department of Chemical Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de México between 1920 and 1935. This mobility program was introduced by the Mexican government in the early 1920s with the aim of sending students to the Department of Chemical Sciences (today Chemistry Department of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) to receive professional training in Europe. The study analyzes the origins of the program, its characteristics, the activities of program fellows in Europe, and the impact upon their return to Mexico. The research is based on a review of primary sources, such as student and academic files at UNAM, found in the collections of this university’s Historic Archive.
