Abstract

TIRADO, Felipe; BACKHOFF, Eduardo  and  LARRAZOLO, Norma. The digital revolution and evaluation: A new paradigm. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.152, pp.182-201. ISSN 0185-2698.

The digital revolution has given way to a new age in large-scale educational assessment, offering possibilities that were inconceivable a decade ago. Together with progress in cognitive sciences and psychometrics, it has been possible to make significant progress, such as automated question generation. The aim of this article is to present a new assessment paradigm, based on semantic fields, using digital technology. This paradigm allows for evaluating more complex cognitive competencies through constructed or semi-constructed responses and partial credit, thus overcoming many limitations of the traditional paper-and-pencil and multiple-choice formats. The theoretical, conceptual, technical and computational characteristics of the Basic Competencies Exam (EXCOBA) and the Automatic Item Test Generation tool (GenerEx), which permits the generation of isomorphs and equivalency tests, are described.

Keywords : Computerized assessments; Semantic fields; Constructed responses; Item automatic generator; Isomorphic items.
