Abstract

SURDEZ PEREZ, Edith Georgina; MAGANA MEDINA, Deneb Elí  and  SANDOVAL CARAVEO, María del Carmen. Role conflict in university faculty professors. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.147, pp.103-125. ISSN 0185-2698.

Role conflict inhibits professional performance and hinders the pursuit of organizational goals. The study's objective was to verify the existence of role conflict and the level at which it is perceived as a problem among faculty professors in a public state university in Mexico. Participants included 186 teachers affiliated with 64 faculties; we used a questionnaire with a Likert-type scale, with Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of .92 and factorial loads in all dimensions over .60. The results report that 75 percent of the sample perceive role conflict, reporting the highest levels for dimensions of conflict over resources and conflict with normativity. We conclude that it is necessary to review public policy and programs in the area of assessment of academic quality of professors to reduce discrepancies and inconsistencies in aspects of normativity and performance indicators.
