Abstract

HERNANDEZ ROJAS, Gerardo. Implicit writing theories in students who belong to two different academic communities. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.136, pp.42-62. ISSN 0185-2698.

The author analyzes the implicit writing theories and also the processes and strategies used by students of two different academic communities when they write texts with specific rhetorical and communicative requirements. The results show obvious differences in the prevailing type of implicit writing theory amongst the students of each academic community; it is possible to observe an obvious coherence between the prevailing implicit theory in each group and the strategic writing activities, which seems to indicate that the students use to approach the writing duty starting from the implicit theory type they have. The author concludes hypothetically that implicit theory and the way of approximation to writing amongst each community's members are different because the students use to take part in the different academic literacy practices valid in their respective community.

Keywords : Writing; Implicit theories; Academic literacy; University students.
