Abstract

PLA, Sebastián. Do we know about History in basic education? A glance to the results of the ENLACE Test 2010. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.134, pp.138-154. ISSN 0185-2698.

In April 2010 took place the ENLACE Test to basic education students, as every consecutive year since 2006. This 2010 edition showed as special feature that the test included questions about History. This article analyzes in detail the kind of knowledge about History that is promoted by means of large-scale assessment processes from the point of view of a researcher specialized in teaching of contemporary History. His conclusions are that massive assessment tests are opposite to the teaching and learning processes promoted by the socio-cultural or constructivist approaches and that they create strains which make obligatory for the teachers to get back or to maintain themselves, depending on the case, in the traditional way of teaching History, where the elitist memory and stories of people related to the political power are the points of view that the students receive. In short, the ENLACE test perpetuates the exclusion of a plural vision about the past within the classroom, this means, the kind of learning that only can be assessed by means of a qualitative look.
