Abstract

LATAPI SARRE, Pablo. Mexico and the UNESCO: how to improve their relation. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.121, pp.125-136. ISSN 0185-2698.

Historically the record of the relationship of Mexico to UNESCO is undoubtedly quite positive from the political and diplomatic standpoint. However, an analysis of this relationship from the standpoint of its "productive " results-that is, the benefits obtained by the country fiom this international Organization to solve its educational problems or the experiences brought up by Mexico to this Organization-is by far less positive. The author argues that this is due to the lack of clear policies established by the two ministries involved (Foreign Relations and Education); this in turn is due to a conflict of jurisdictions between them and the present composition of the National Commission for UNESCO. The essay proposes ways to overcome these problems in order to improve the relationship of Mexico to this international Organization.

Keywords : UNESCO; Educational policies; Foreign relations; Multilateral organizations; Institutional representation; Teacher training.
