Abstract

FAJARDO TAPIA, David. Female Sacredness. Photo-Hagiography of Madre Conchita. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2022, n.64, pp.189-221.  Epub Mar 31, 2023. ISSN 0185-2620.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iih.24485004e.2022.64.77743.

This work analyzes a photo-album made in homage to Concepción Acevedo de la Llata, better known as madre Conchita, who was charged of being the intellectual author of Álvaro Obregón assassination. The album itself is evidence of the use of photography to present personages as model lives. Like hagiographies, the album exalts Acevedo’s religious life in order to depict her as a martyr of the Cristero War. Photos portray madre Conchita images from the last decade of the 19th century to her death, so showing the devotional value that Cristeros attributed to photography, opening the possibility of considering the images as relics.

Keywords : album; photography; relic; martyr; photohagiography.
