Abstract

The reforms and innovations of Mexico City’s hospital institutions underwent during the first half of the last century were closely linked to hospital reforms in other countries. The present article aims to highlight the interaction and circulation of ideas and projects around the concept of “hospital modernity”, an elastic term in constant transformation that was central for the hospital reforms undertaken in Mexico City during the first half of the 20th Century. This article also approaches the guidelines, models and networks of international experts in hospital renewal -of which Mexico was a part- in order to enrich the history of Mexico’s National Hospital Plan during the early 1940s.
