Abstract

JAIMES MARTINEZ, Ramiro. Methodism in the Face of the Revolution: El Abogado Cristiano and the Madero Uprising. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2012, n.43, pp.69-103. ISSN 0185-2620.

This work analyzes the position of the Episcopal Methodist Church of Mexico regarding the 1910 Madero revolution, through its official organ. This article suggests that the position adopted by the denomination in the face of the revolution reflected its limited capacity to make its ecclesiastical structures more flexible. In the last analysis this prevented it not only from becoming a revolutionary actor but also from maintaining its spaces in the religious sphere after the Revolution.

Keywords : Protestantism; Mexican revolution; political participation; newspapers; evangelization.
