Abstract

GONZALEZ, María del Refugio. Sovereignty in the Academy of Practical-Theoretic Jurisprudence of Mexico. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2012, n.43, pp.3-34. ISSN 0185-2620.

This article analyzes the session organized by the Jurisprudence Academy of Mexico on 15 March 1813, which discussed the Cádiz Constitution, which had recently been proclaimed in Mexico. It was a traditional exercise that exposed the different ideas of the concept of "sovereignty" which was changing dramatically after the 1808 crisis. This session anticipated some of the problems that would later be faced by the constitutional regime.

Keywords : Sovereignty; sovereign; king; nation; Constitution; lawyers; Benito José Guerra; Juan Francisco de Azcárate; Juan Gómez de Navarrete.
