Abstract

FLORES DAVILA, Julia Isabel. Women and the Use of Public Spaces in Mexico. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2020, vol.65, n.240, pp.293-326.  Epub Feb 28, 2021. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2020.240.76630.

This article analyzes the various uses and meanings present in the multiplicity of public spaces and in their liminalities in urban contexts and certain political configurations within the framework of structurally established gender relations. Likewise, theoretical and methodological elements that contribute to the sociological debate on the social use of spaces, which induces or inhibits the access and enjoyment of women and other traditionally disadvantaged groups, are provided. Based on the analysis of places such as parks, streets and even virtual spaces-social networks and the internet-, solid data on the inequality of use, perception and participation within public space are displayed.

Keywords : women; use of public spaces; public-private; liminal spaces.
