Abstract

MEYER, Jean. Roman Church and anti-Semitism (1920-1040). Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2016, vol.61, n.226, pp.159-196. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.1016/S0185-1918(16)30007-1.

The guiding axis of this analysis is a detailed reading of the curial and influential Italian journal La Civiltà Cattolica , during decades the "combat" periodical more openly anti-Semitic which -as maintained by this article- reflects Catholic culture of the second half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth. By way of an intertwined and systematic construction of historical events, public figures, political processes, publications' reviews, encyclical letters and controversies, this piece aims to unveil the specifics of the connections among "the Jewish question", the Roman Church, fascism, Nazism, anti-Semitism and anti-Judaism.

Keywords : La Civiltà Cattolica; anti-Semitism; the Jewish question; Roman Church.
