In his article, the author analyzes and evaluates the so called PRODECOP (Proyecto de Desarrollo de Comunidades Rurales Pobres) as one of the various programs designed to reduce poverty in Venezuela. The methodology comprises documental research, interviews and focal groups. One of the main conclusions is that PRODECOP has been successful in strengthening the human, social, financial and physical assets of the beneficiaries. The program has also been successful in promoting rural microcredit associations, which have become a source of financing for the poor.
