Abstract

AMADOR BECH, Julio. La condición del arte. Entre lo sagrado y lo profano Apuntes de sociología y antropología del arte. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2006, vol.48, n.196, pp.27-53. ISSN 0185-1918.

In this article the author analyzes Art as a concept, he confronts and questions the opposition and difference between the modern and profane idea of art, and the traditional and antique, submerged in the substance of The sacred. Using as a basis the definitions of "traditional art" proposed by several authors, he establishes the general theoretical perspective needed to analyze in a concrete way the particular forms in which, in several cultures, art is situated inside diverse social practices that correspond to mythical and ritual complexes belonging to the sacred. In particular, the cases of the prehispanic cultures of the Mesoamerican area and the Yoruba culture of Nigeria are studied. A general outline of the genesis of the modern concept of art, from the classical Greece to the Renaissance, is developed, underlining the consequences of modern art secularization and the forms that rupture and confrontation between the sacred and profane concepts of art adopted.

Keywords : Arte; arte tradicional; antropología del arte; sociología del arte; sagrado; profano; Mesoamérica; arte mesoamericano.
