Abstract

PEREZ-ESCATEL, Aldo A.  and  PEREZ VEYNA, Oscar. Competitiveness and accumulation of technological capabilities in the Mexican manufacturing industry. Inv. Econ [online]. 2009, vol.68, n.268, pp.159-187. ISSN 0185-1667.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the behavior of Mexican manufacturing firms as of commercial opening and the acquisition of technological capabilities. If the acquisition of technological capabilities is verified, then their effects on the competitive advantages of the manufacturing firms will be explored. On the basis of an econometric analysis of panel data, we affirm that commercial opening does not in itself permit the increase and development of technological capabilities, which would allow an increase in authentic competitive advantages.

Keywords : competitiveness; technological capacities; Mexican industry; panel data.
