Abstract

MEJIA REYES, Pablo; MARTINEZ GOMEZ, J. Alonso  and  RENDON BALBOA, Wendy L.. Classic Economic Cycles in the Industrial Production of Mexico. Inv. Econ [online]. 2005, vol.64, n.254, pp.91-124. ISSN 0185-1667.

By using a classical business cycles approach, this paper determines the business cycle turning points of the four great divisions of the industrial production and of the nine divisions of the manufacturing production of Mexico. Additionally, we evaluate for the existence of asymmetric characteristics of the business cycle regimes and measure the synchronization between those regimes. Because of its importance for the Mexican economy, the same exercise is carried out for the US case. Our results suggest the existence of asymmetries and a mild synchronization between the business cycle regimes of the variables; the synchronization of the Mexican economy to the US one seems to be very a recent phenomena and limited only to some industrial activities.
