Abstract

RELLO, Fernando. The Strategies of Agricultural Workers in the face of the Adjustment and Globalisation in Mexico. Inv. Econ [online]. 2000, vol.60, n.233, pp.61-76. ISSN 0185-1667.

The purpose of this article is to analyse the responses of Mexican agricultural labourers to the challenges posed by the rural crisis and globalisation. Toe article maintains that agricultural worker families have life strategies that are being ruined by changes in the domestic economy and society. The author's focus of study is precisely these strategies, what farm labourers are doing in order to protect and improve their social ways of life. Toe approach is necessarily empirical. It uses surveys of rural families, taken at different moments in time, to study how their productive practices, the relative importance of their sources of income, and their participation in markets and social organisations, have all been modified.
