Abstract
FLORES MERCADO, Bertha Georgina. Memoria colectiva, región sociomusical y bandas de viento en Totolapan, Morelos. Cuicuilco [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.61, pp.189-210. ISSN 0185-1659.
This article establishes the relationship between memory and territory based on the narratives of wind ensemble musicians from the municipality of Totolapan, in the state of Morelos. Territory is considered as a symbolized space, impregnated with affections that permit the expression of collective and community identities. This territory is understood as a region, brought about as a result of distinct musical practices (musical performance, music education, the buying and selling of musical scores and instruments, etc.) carried out by the peasant musicians of Totolapan, between the decades of the 1930s and the 1980s. The text is nourished mainly by the testimonies of the musicians themselves, in order to sustain that territories are not only created through the hegemonic market or through public policies, but also as a result of social interactions established through cultural practice, such as the music played by wind ensembles.
Keywords : collective memory; territory; musical region; wind ensembles; rural life.
