Abstract

CABRERA BAZ, Ángel Fernando. Funcionalidad y perversión del mito: entorno lacandón. Cuicuilco [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.59, pp.193-209. ISSN 0185-1659.

In this investigation, we discuss the importance of myths, from a social standpoint, as an element that supports "the way one gets along" in life; the impact of the loss of myths in comprehending reality; the way myths integrate and separate different societies, through the functions they fulfill and the characters that are considered to embody them. We will address the sacred and profane dimensions of myths, based on their calling to totality, the message conveyed through the device of narration, the different currents that nourish them, the keys that lead to comprehension and functionality, the factors of corruption, in other words, the motivations that seek to adapt and implant myths, in the search for dominance. All these considerations will be referenced to the particular "Lacandón" environment.

Keywords : myth; functionality; Lacandón; inhabit; perversion.
