Abstract

This essay provides a methodological discussion and reflection on the way social scientists analyze religious beliefs, regardless of whether or not they themselves are believers. Therefore, a critical review is made of the leading authors, who have had a strong influence on anthropological analyses of contemporary religion. The intention is to open up the possibility of a deeper discussion, that would allow us to redefine our position as social scientists in relation to the beliefs and religious practices of the "other," all of which are intended to gain a deeper comprehension of the inner human.
