Abstract

AGUIRRE BARRERA, Dulce Isabel. Del estereotipo a la performatividad del género en una secuencia de El lugar sin límites (1977), de Arturo Ripstein. Cuicuilco [online]. 2012, vol.19, n.54, pp.241-260. ISSN 0185-1659.

The article analyzes the sex-gender identities and the construction-deconstruction of the stereotypical cinematographic images in the climactic cinematic sequence of the Mexican film El lugar sin límites -The Place Without Limits- (1977), by Arturo Ripstein, in which the dance performed by the character "La Manuela," a homosexual transvestite, for Pancho, a typical 'macho' homosexual Mexican trucker, which culminates in a homosexual exchange. This, based on the concept of the 'performative dimension' of the Judith Butler genre.

Keywords : Ripstein; The Place Without Limits; genre; performativity; masculine sexuality.
