Abstract

DIAZ ESCOTO, Alma Silvia. Juárez: la construcción del mito. Cuicuilco [online]. 2008, vol.15, n.43, pp.33-56. ISSN 0185-1659.

The paper refers the process of shaping a mythicfigure of the president Benito Juárez between his death in 1872 and his birthday's centenary in 1906. It submits for instance:the government celebrations after his death and in every anniversary of his birthday and death, the persistent debates in the Congress and press, the politic controversies during Porfirio Díaz'regime and the popular expressions in many dates after his death. The work concludes that this man became a myth after two events:the literary tribute of the writers that refute the book that Francisco Bulnes wrote against Juárez in 1904 and the great festivities to commemorate the centenary of his birth in 1906.

Keywords : Benito Juárez; Porfirio Díaz; Francisco Bulnes; press; myth.
