Abstract

LABARCA, Claudia  and  MONTT STRABUCCHI, Maria. Discourse as representation of meaning in international relations: the sino-chilean case. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2019, n.47, pp.163-184.  Epub May 31, 2020. ISSN 0185-1616.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.24484903e.2019.47.69504.

Social discourse constitutes itself as creator of meaning and representation of the world, therefore articulating realities. From this perspective, discourse becomes a social fact and is hence ‘historic’. However, for this discourse to be legitimate, it must be conveyed in institutional settings. In order to explore the importance of discourse as forming and legitimising bilateral relations between the People’s Republic of China and Chile, this article analyses economic, political and cultural institutional discourses articulated within the bilateral Sino-Chilean relation, and within a broader context of the relationship between China and Latin America.

Keywords : Chile; China; discourse; representation; Latin America.
