This paper elaborates on a comparative explanation of the Presidential System in Mexico. The author delves inside the controversy brought by the political scientist Juan Linz in 1989, about the lack of institutional strength of the Presidential System in order to make feasible a democratic transition in Latin America; and guaranteeing governance in a framework of split majorities. The analysis of presidentialism folIows three approaches, each one supported by different political thinkers: Juan Linz, Dieter Nohlen and Giovanni Sartori.
