Abstract

RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ, María Guadalupe  and  GOMEZ SERRANO, Jesús. The Architectural and Material Conversion of the Old Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción into Aguascalientes Cathedral. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.121, pp.429-458.  Epub July 31, 2023. ISSN 0185-1276.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iie.18703062e.2022.121.2796.

This research refers to the material history of the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in the town of Aguascalientes, and its transformation into a cathedral, at the beginning of the 20th century. The his- tory of the building records three stages. The first corresponds to the New Spanish era, with the construction of the parish church between 1706 and 1738; the second to the 19th century, which was characterized by the introduction of the neoclassical style in architecture and ornamentation; and the third to the first decades of the 20th century, when the project to adapt the old parish building in the cathedral was carried out. The proposed review highlights the importance that the parish had both in the New Spanish and the independent period, which allowed the old parish building, properly transformed and appropriate, to house the cathedral at the early 20th century.
