Abstract

CUESTA HERNANDEZ, Luis Javier. Sobre el estilo arquitectónico en Claudio de Arciniega. Su participación en la construcción de los conventos agustinos de Acolman, Actopan y Metztitlán. Su papel en la arquitectura novohispana del siglo XVI. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2000, vol.22, n.76, pp.61-88. ISSN 0185-1276.

In this article, Luis Javier Cuesta Hernández proposes that, rather than an artist fully embracing the tenets of Manierism, as is generally believed, Claudio de Arciniega was really a Plateresque architect-sculptor, the defender of a refined current associated with the architectural treatises, and a man determined to dignify and revalue his profession. Through a stylistic analysis of differing details observed at Acolman, Actopan and Metztitlán, Cuesta Hernández explains this outstanding artist's ideas and describes the way in which he was able to influence the development of architecture in New Spain.
