Abstract

SANCHEZ HERNANDEZ, Gabriela. Activos y recursos en familias de sectores medios del D.F.: Un estudio de caso sobre estrategias de reproducción doméstica. Nueva antropol [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.79, pp.123-146. ISSN 0185-0636.

Economic anthropology has developed many studies related to exploring strategies for survival and reproduction in low social sectors, both urban and rural, in Mexico. However, this is not the case of studies of strategies of reproduction and survival in the urban middle class. This article shows some of the conclusions of a study of six "middle class" families living in the Federal District. It analyzes the economic assets and resources used by each domestic unit as mechanisms of economic reproduction and survival, with special emphasis on education, inherited traits, and the benefits of some of the programs that the welfare state still provides for a number of the families who were interviewed, among other elements.

Keywords : Urban middle class; strategies of reproduction; family assets and resources; domestic economy in the Distrito Federal.
