Abstract
PICCOLI, Emmanuelle. Las rondas campesinas y su reconocimiento estatal, dificultades y contradicciones de un encuentro: un enfoque antropológico sobre el caso de Cajamarca, Perú. Nueva antropol [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.71, pp.93-113. ISSN 0185-0636.
This article analyzes, from an anthropological approach, the difficulties and contradictions of legally recognizing the rondas campesinas or peasant patrols born at the end of the Seventies due to the need of farmers to protect themselves against thieves. The patrols quickly formed a justice administration that worked in a specific way, which we analyze at the organizational, ritual and normative levels. The Peruvian State recognizes the Rondas campesinas as organizations that can provide support to the rural communities, but problems remain regarding their recognition as independent organizations and their use of physical punishment. In any event, the analysis demonstrates that several pragmatic strategies at the local level allow for an effective pluralism.
