Abstract

TICKNER, Arlene B.; CEPEDA M., Carolina  and  BERNAL, José Luis. Anti-Americanism, pro-Americanism and Common Sense in Latin America. Foro int [online]. 2015, vol.55, n.3, pp.805-845. ISSN 0185-013X.

This article discusses pro- and anti-American attitudes in Latin America, on the basis of the surveys conducted for the project Mexico, the Americas and the World. These allow discussion of the dominant ideas within the debate, which indicate a deep anti-Americanism in the region. Based on analysis of the results of the surveys, we argue that it is not possible to ascribe a pro- or anti-American identity to countries for the region, and that on the contrary they display both tendencies.

Keywords : Latin America; anti-Americanism; pro-Americanism; common sense and public opinion.
