Abstract

BUENO BRAVO, Isabel. Economic targets and military strategy in the Aztec empire. Estud. cult. náhuatl [online]. 2012, vol.44, pp.135-163. ISSN 0071-1675.

The present article analyzes the control and management of commercial routes and products as a strategy for expansion of the Aztec empire; the way in which the latter deployed its efforts towards the coast, the gulf and the south, where the most productive provinces were situated, involving both army and merchants in this enterprise, and attempting to create a balance of forces which, in the course of time, seems to have inclined in favour of the pochtecas, thus threatening the military estate.

Keywords : Pochteca; Warrior; trade; war; economy; benefits.
